Who can join Cub Scouts?
Cub Scouts is open to anyone in kindergarten to the 5th grade. Our pack accepts both boys and girls.
Do I as the parent have to attend the meetings?
This largely depends on the age of the child. If the child is in kindergarten (Lions) or first grade (Tigers), we would ask for a parent to stay with their child. In general, parents help plan the meetings at this level.
If your child is in second grade, third grade, fourth grade, or fifth grade, there is usually a dedicated Den Leader and the parent is not required to attend. However, we do encourage parents to attend the meetings even if they're not required to.
What are the ranks in Cub Scouts?
Cub Scout ranks are determined by grade level:
- Kindergarten - Lions
- 1st Grade - Tigers
- 2nd Grade - Wolves
- 3rd Grade - Bears
- 4th Grade - Webelos (Webelos 1)
- 5th Grade - Arrow of Light (Webelos 2)

What is a Cub Scout pack?
The Cub Scout Pack is the combination of all the dens in the pack. The Pack is run by a Cubmaster.
What is the Cub Scout den?
A Cub Scout Den is a smaller unit of the pack. Ideally, the den should consist of members of the same grade level; however, given the size of the pack or the number of leaders that have volunteered, there may be combinations of grades. Last year we had two dens: Younger Scouts (K-2nd) and Older Scouts (3rd-5th).
What if my child is in the sixth grade to high school?
If the child is in 6th grade, they would be assigned to Troop 143.
Is Cub Scouts a religious organization?
Cub Scouts is non-sectarian. However, there are some religious elements to the organization. One of the laws of the Scout Law is "reverent." There is a Duty to God component as well in scouting. However, the this pack and the national organization are very aware that religious views are the domain of the family. The emphasis is on tolerance and respect for the views of the family. In the past, we have had scouts that were Christian, Muslim, and Atheists. All are welcome.
Why do you meet at Our Lady of the Lake?
Our Lady of the Lake Church is the Charter Organization (sponsoring organization) for Pack-143. The Pack is not a Catholic organization. The Parish has been kind enough to allow us to use their facilities.
